Sigmund Freud

In the late 19th century, psychotherapist Sigmund Freud developed a theory that the content of dreams is driven by unconscious wish fulfillment or satisfactions.  He theorized that the content in dreams reflects the unconscious mind and that content is constantly shaped by desires and satisfactions.

He hypothesizes that content can be manifest and latent.  Latent content relates to deep unconscious wishes, manifest content is meaningless but often distracts from the latent.   This idea of dreams just being a collection based off of one’s inner desires is his approach to the psychoanalysis of dream interpretation.
